As part of its main project, Vitateq develops diagnostic testing procedures to increase the success rates of in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The aim is to use these diagnostics to improve the likelihood of success by 50%, thereby reducing the number of IVF cycles which, in turn, will drastically lower the stress experienced by the patient and treatment costs. Ideally, it is also hoped that it will be possible to have to implant just one embryo which will then prevent multiple pregnancies. Vitateq also identifies and validates a variety of tumour markers derived from human plasma. The core technology needed to achieve this, which we have established, is proteomics combined with a variety of different conventional protein chemistry techniques.
